This post will give you an example effect that can be acheived by using the Textures provided here at crazydesigners.net :D

One thing to remember when using textures is that it is all about experimenting. Once you’ve got the basic hang of layers and layer styles, colour/layer fills and opacity, you can achieve the exact feel of the image by using textures and other tools. And the best thing is, you’ll always end up with a unique effect!

In this post, we’ll be using a beautiful stock image provided by LadyDragonStock, to create a dark looking effect. The textures used in this example can be downloaded here:

Here is the before image:

and below is the image after textures have been applied:

  1. Open the image in Adobe Photoshop, scale the base (original) image according to the size you want and then sharpen the image once or may be twice depending on the image.
  2. Open Texture 1 from Textures Set Pack 2 (TEX2). Press Ctrl+A and drag it onto the base image. Set the layer style to be Linear Light with the opacity 71%
  3. Then open Texture 2 (TEX2). Do the same, drag it on top of the previous texture and set the layer as colour dodge at 76% opacity.
  4. Lastly, place Texture 4 from (TEX1). on the top and set the layer as soft light, 67% opacity.
  5. Here is what your layer palette should look like:
  6. If you want to achive a realsitic look rather than vintage dark, unhide the two layers, and just use the Texture 4 (yellow/golden) and set it to soft light at 67%. Click here to see this result.
  7. Remember to experiment, feel free to download the textures provided here at crazydesigners (Pack 1&2) and use them to practise! enjoy!

  6. Website Skinning with php

There are many websites that use this skinning technique for allowing the visitors to change the theme of their website and is particularly popular with those users who do not use wordpress - mainly because you can use the Theme switcher plug-in and in seconds, it will automatically allow you to change themes. Here is another technique of achieving the same result…

Skinning allows the visitor to change the theme/layout of the site by using cookies. The content remains the same - only the header and the footer of each skin or theme changes allocated in different folders. An example of a working website that uses this technique is Creative-something. You can see the different themes avaliable for the users to choose from on this page here ^^

This download file (in html format) contains a simple step by step instructions on how to skin your website. You can see a preview sample on the left. Using Textures

This post will give you some basic info on Textures and how you can use them to achieve creative effects both in graphics and photography!

Textures are a great way to enhance a photo, using it to achieve a certain ‘feel’ and depth; to suit the concept of the image. Textures are also useful in emphasising the main object of the photo so that it is clear from its surroundings and can be used to get the right tone for a certain effect.

Take a look at the following example:
